Hyperactivity

Hyperactivity is excessive movement, restlessness, or a feeling of being "driven by a motor," and is one of the core symptom areas of ADHD.

Definition

Hyperactivity involves an internal or external restlessness — fidgeting, difficulty staying seated, or feeling constantly on the go. In adults it often appears as inner restlessness rather than obvious overactivity. As an ADHD feature it must be persistent and impairing across settings.

What it can feel like

  • Fidgeting, tapping, or difficulty sitting still.
  • Feeling restless even when others seem calm.
  • Talking excessively or interrupting.
  • A constant sense of being "on the go."

سؤالات متداول

Does hyperactivity look different in adults?

Yes. Adults often experience inner restlessness or feeling overwhelmed rather than the visible overactivity seen in children.

Is hyperactivity always part of ADHD?

Not always. Some people with ADHD are predominantly inattentive. A screen and clinical assessment clarify the pattern.
